Our investment approach is grounded in a number of core principles which, taken together, provide a blueprint for long-term client success.
Much of our focus is on helping each client determine what percentage of their portfolio should be committed to risk assets (e.g., stocks) and debt assets (e.g., bonds). This determination is based upon a thorough understanding of each client’s particular circumstances, including goals, time horizon, risk appetite and spending needs. We also thoughtfully diversify our clients’ equity holdings by geography and investment style, giving them access to investment opportunities wherever they may exist.
We believe clients should only take risk in their equity when and where they get adequately paid to do so. Thus, for the core of our clients’ equity portfolios, we utilize low-cost, tax-efficient investment services designed to capture the broad returns of the market. In certain asset classes, we may seek to add some active overlay, primarily through disciplined, quantitatively-based strategies designed to exploit long-term market inefficiencies.
Our clients depend on their bond investments for stability, income and preservation of capital. We maintain high credit-quality portfolios, utilizing active management strategies to both enhance return and reduce risk.
We do not chase past returns or react to day-to-day market fluctuations, opting instead for a long-term strategic approach to investment management. We consistently reivew each client’s asset allocation and systematically rebalance their portfolios. We also provide objective, unbiased advice during both difficult market environments and significant life events.
Taxes are one of the most significant hurdles that any private client faces in the accumulation and preservation of wealth. We employ leading-edge tax management strategies, always remembering that our goal is to maximize each client’s after-tax return.
